1. Setting off firecrackers

For thousands of years, firecrackers have become one of the symbols of the Spring Festival, bringing people excitement, hustle and bustle, joy, and a strong New Year flavor. Children also enjoy setting off firecrackers. The initial purpose of setting off firecrackers was actually to drive away the "New Year beast" and the epidemic, hoping for a safe and healthy new year. Therefore, when the door opens on New Year's Eve, every family will set off firecrackers. But in the past two years, many places have banned the burning of firecrackers, even in many rural areas.

2. Paste Spring Festival couplets

The Spring Festival couplets were originally known as "Taofu", which means writing on peach trees with the aim of driving away evil spirits. With the invention of paper, people wrote on it. In the Hongwu Emperor period, the Spring Festival couplets were officially established, and every family would paste festive and auspicious Spring Festival couplets to express their vision and hope for the future.

3. Reunion dinner Dinner

On New Year's Eve, every family will prepare a grand Reunion dinner dinner. The whole family will eat and drink together and talk about what they have seen and heard in the year. They are very happy. Therefore, the Reunion dinner dinner is indispensable, and the Reunion dinner dinner is usually very rich, which needs to be put on the table to show that the family is rich and happy, without worrying about food and drink. The dishes prepared for the Reunion dinner dinner are generally auspicious and festive. I hope the New Year will be a good start.

4. Ancestor Worship

Ancestral worship is the most important first event on New Year's Eve, which reflects the filial piety of Chinese people. On New Year's Eve, people will place abundant food at home, then display the ancestral tablets or portraits, pour wine, and the owner will light incense candles, leading the family to worship and offer sacrifices to show respect and gratitude to their ancestors. We hope that our ancestors can bless our family's safety. After the ceremony is over, the whole family can only begin to enjoy the delicious food, which reflects the Chinese people's "cautious pursuit of distance" sentiment, and every family will attach special importance to it.

5. Hang a lantern

On New Year's Eve, in addition to pasting Spring Festival couplets, red lanterns should also be hung. This custom has been popular in China for 1800 years and has existed since the Western Han Dynasty. On New Year's Eve, everyone hangs red lanterns for festive reunions to create a harmonious and festive atmosphere, looking forward to a prosperous new year.

6. Shousui

Shousui is also one of the important customs on New Year's Eve, which has been popular for nearly 2000 years now. There was a description of "Shou Sui" in the Jin Dynasty's "Fudoki": "Stay up all night until dawn." By the time of the Tang Dynasty, Shou Sui had become a national custom. The initial purpose of Shousui was actually to drive away "Nian Beasts" and plagues. On New Year's Eve, the lights should stay on all night, and "Nian Beasts" are afraid of light, which can play a role in driving away.
